Docspond is a series of two ponds joined by a rivulet that once housed a water wheel that powered a concrete bath in the middle and a pump house at its eastern side. The ponds resemble a barbell. The ponds came into formation after the retreat of glaciers that were fashioned on either side of the rivulet. They are fed by springs that are fed from the Cohansey aquifer. From the 20's to the late sixties, they were the center attraction to the Nature's Rest nudist resort. One of the many resorts that dotted the interior of the Jersey Shore. With the Zeppelin Hanger at Lakehurst Naval and Air base and the Blue comet train, it was not hard for the doctor to transport his guest by horse and buggy and then automobile to his resort. The carriage stoop the guests would disembark onto still can be seen on the perimeter of the fire ring. A undershot waterwheel operated by a sluice gate on a counterweight would power a cedar lined tunnel to shoot a current below the water level to hit the cement wall of the bath and circulate out a large mouth metal pipe creating the mineral bath. Along the ponds is a walk way with several clearings that were destined to become favorite picnic sites. One of which is a beautiful white sand beach comprised of quartz and silicone.

Over the years since I was a kid in the seventies to now, it has been a great place of solitude were nature and man do an intricate dance between fortitude and weathering. A place where man's intention is in compromise with nature's will. Its a place people come to read, walk their dogs, and gather under the stars for intimate moments alone. Besides the natural foliage of Birch, Atlantic White Cedar, Pitch Pine, Blueberry bushes, and Choke Berries; the doctor has planted Mountain Laurel, Swamp Magnolia, and exotic ferns around the pond.

It is a place where I tell my stories around the fire to those who sit on the cedar benches or the low slung logs. Stories of life. Stories of teaching. Stories of adventure. Adventures of a youth into a hero in which we model our growth upon. Tales of the fabulous and the ordinary in which make up our lives. All sung along with the twinkle of the stars and the gurgle of the pond surrounding you like the embrace of a mother.

But over the last few years the ponds have fell into decline due to vandalism. With your help I can maintain them and keep them clean and teach the youth of the area to respect them. And in doing so I may teach them to respect themselves a little more in the process.
